‹MUSIC› It was Rosalia‘s day. I checked out Lux. It’s marvellous, daring, enchanting and a truly performative piece, though I’m not sure if it’s still pop. Experimental pop maybe? Nevertheless, it’s a very refreshing concept album and I’m not particularly interested in pop music or in Rosalia, but I have to admit, it is quite fascinating! I’ve even watched Zane Lowe’s interview with her, to better understand the creative process behind the album and what it wants to achieve. I learned that Rosalia is deeply invested in theology and she explored the life of saints across the world. This research plus studying classical music, and her will to “go all the way” as she describes in the linked interview were the key components of the songs. It’s a massive undertaking but we have to acknowledge that this is definitely not an accessible album. A fitting analogy: it is haute couture and not the latest ready-to-wear collection of a cheap brand.
I also had a go at The Bug‘s latest album titled Implosion (cause I liked London Zoo). It was just background noise for now for deep working, I probably should revisit it but will I?
‹BOOK› I carried Leonora Carrington’s The Hearing Trumpet over to the new year. I got stuck on page 60 before Christmas and naturally the holidays shifted my focus. I’d like to finish the book really soon in about 1-2 days. Well, I do enjoy the comical aspects, there are so many well-written skits (like when the protagonist is scolded by the nursing home’s doctor). As for the surreal side: I find myself not THAT invested for now, but I’m curious where things are heading so I might end up with a deep desire to decipher all hidden meanings once I finish the novel.
‹ARTICLE› To have a better grasp on Carrington I listened to this about surrealism. Plus listened to this quick review about Marty Supreme (oh I hate when an article gives away the plot in such details!). Btw, it’s quite fascinating to follow Chalamet’s rise to greatness (just to refer to one of his award wins where he talked about his pursuit of becoming one of the greatest of his generation).
‹DIY› I started a circle scarf today!
‹LEARNING› I almost forgot: today and yesterday I had my first language lessons of 2026. English on Monday, and German this morning! I’m hoping I can become a better student this year and put more effort in preparing for the classes.
‹SPORTS› I’m slowly easing back into running: I’m using the 10k runner app and started with Week6 (so interval runs of 12 mins + 8 mins today only), so I’m still gentle with myself. In the evening I had a session with my personal trainer too. This sounds extremely posh, but it’s really not. I look like a pathetic couch potato with a corporate job in IT.
